Confirmed: Alcaraz, ahead of Djokovic at Wimbledon

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz will be the first seed at Wimbledon. As has been the case for the past two years, the third Grand Slam of the year decided not to change the order of the world rankings and the Murcian will lead a list of seeded teams in which Defending champion Novak Djokovic will be number 2.

so, the Spaniards and the Serbians will only see each other in the finalunlike what happened at Roland Garros, where Daniil Medvedev came in as number 2.

A win in London would allow Djokovic to match Roger Federer’s record eight Wimbledon titles.but he faces a strong challenge from Alcaraz, who reclaimed the world number one from the Serb by winning the Queen’s Club title on Sunday.

The duo will look to take their rivalry to another level after splitting at the start of the year. due to injuries and Djokovic was unable to play on the US hardcourt tour due to his stance on the COVID vaccine.

Daniil Medvedev will be the third seed and his compatriot, Andrey Rublev, the seventh. Both players returned to Wimbledon after organizers lifted the ban on players from Russia and Belarus.

Players from these two countries were excluded from last year’s Championship after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, described by Moscow as a “special military operation”.

In addition to Alcaraz, Spanish tennis will have two more seeds in this edition of Wimbledon: Roberto Bautista (21) and Alejandro Davidovich (32).

Swiatek, first seed

In the women’s box, Iga Swiatek will be the top seed aiming to dethrone defending champion Elena Rybakinaone of the rivals to beat, while the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who has a good punch, will also have her chances.

The trio, dubbed the new “Big Three”, had to resist the challenge of the Tunisian pioneer Ons Jabeurwho will seek to become the first African woman and the first Arab player to win a Grand Slam singles title after reaching the Wimbledon and US Open finals last year.

Another opponent is two-time champion Petra Kvitova, who stunned Rybakina by winning the Miami Open and set up for a grass-court slam by winning her second title of the season at the Berlin Open.

For the first time in recent years, There are no Spaniards among the seeded teams.
