Alonso: “I look forward to seeing what we can do in Austria”

Date:

Fernando AlonsoSpanish Formula One driver for the Aston Martin team, said of the next race he has to play in Austria that he is “looking forward” to see what they can do after finishing on the podium at the last Canadian Grand Prix.

“It’s a fast and short circuit and it usually brings good racing and overtaking. You have to be careful in the outer areas and avoid damaging the car with the hard curves. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do ,” said the Asturian. , in preview of the Aston Martin team.

“The aim is to maintain that form and get as many points as possible for the team to clinch second place in the constructors’ championship,” he added.

Regarding what was achieved on Canadian soil, where he was second, he commented that “it’s great to be back on the podium in Canada. The improvements we applied to the car worked well and we will continue to optimize setup in Austria.”

Aston Martin took his first major upgrade package in Montreal but was unable to collect as much data as he would have liked as filming in FP1 was limited due to CCTV issues as well as rain hampering filming time in some weekend points.

Although alonso he thinks the improvements will benefit him in Austria this weekend admits that having only one training session – it’s a Sprint weekend again – could work against him.

“I think the Sprint weekend will not be ideal for us. We still need more time maybe for free practice with our new improved car. We still need to understand and optimize the package a little bit. And in Austria, obviously, with Sprint, We will only have FP1 to do it. But it is what it is. The track will be good and maybe even better for the package.”

And he pointed out that “perhaps it is good for Ferrari, historically also here with long straights and short corners, so maybe in Austria we will have a bit of speed.”

Dan Fallows’ view of the improvements

Aston Martin Technical Director, Dan Fallows, also provided more details about the improvements. “I think the main goal for us, and obviously we want to put more performance in the car in general, is that there are some tracks that are more adaptive, and some circuits that are less adaptive and we saw that in the last some individual events,” Fallows explained.

“So we concentrated on expanding the car’s operating window, and that’s what we’re specifically focusing on with these updates.”
