The penalties are mounting for José Mourinho. Banned by UEFA for four matches for his insult to the referee during and after the Europa League final against Sevilla, the Roma coach was punished by ten days of disqualification and a fine of 50,000 euros of the Federal Court of the Italian Football Federation.
The reason? Mourinho’s statements harshly criticizes referee Daniele Chiffi after Monza-Roma of the 33rd day of Serie A played on May 3 (1-1). “Technically he is terrible, from a human point of view he is not empathic, he does not establish a relationship with anyone. He is the worst referee I have met in the course of my career,” said the Portuguese coach .
And he added: “Our limitation is definitely that, we don’t have the strength that other clubs have to say ‘we don’t want this referee'”.
The punishment of ten days to Mourinho will start counting from the beginning of the next edition of Serie A, scheduled for the weekend of August 19 and 20, so he will not be able to direct Roma from the bench on the first day and possibly on the second (August 27) depending on when their matches are scheduled.
