Girona Marina Bassols is one step away from the Wimbledon final draw loss to serbia Natalja Stevanovic (7-5 and 7-5) in the final round of Wimbledon qualifying.
Bassols, who has never played a Grand Slam, is closer than ever, having never reached the third round of a Grand qualifier. After defeating the Czech Lucie Havlickova and the German Eva Lys, the Girona player could not beat Stevanovic, a tennis player with more experience on the surface and had to wait for some casualties in the main draw to enter as a ‘lucky loser’ .
Despite being level at 5-2 in the second set and saving two match points, the Serb avoided the tie break and sealed the match with his third match point on the Spanish serve.
