Former welterweight champion retires “due to memory problems”

Date:

the australian boxer Jeff Hornformer WBO welterweight world champion, announced his retirement on Sunday citing “memory problems.”

The 35-year-old former gym teacher caused a sensation in 2017 at his home in Brisbane when he defeated the Filipino ace Manny Pacquiao to take his belt.

Horn told the Brisbane Courier-Mail newspaper that one of the reasons he turned down a large sum of money was to fight another Australian, Michael Zerafa, because “(his) health is more important than wealth .”

“To be honest, I have had some problems. I have had memory problems,” adding that he underwent tests.

“They told me that if I continued, there was a high risk that things would get worse and that my brain would suffer even more.”

Jeff Horn’s last fight was almost three years ago, when he lost to fellow countryman Tim Tszyu.
