It’s official. Patrick Vieira has returned to the bench and his country to manage Strasbourg, a Ligue 1 club that has now announced his contract for three seasons, until June 2026.
At 47 years old, Vieira replaces Frédéric Antonettiwho managed to stay last season but agreed to leave with the board of directors as part of the club’s restructuring after BlueCo, the Chelsea owner consortium, agreed on June 22 to buy a majority stake in Strasbourg .
Vieira has been without a team since he was sacked on March 17 by Crystal Palace, which he arrives in July 2021, a decade after retiring as a Premier League footballer at Manchester City in 2011.

Arsenal idol as a player
As a player, after going through Cannes and Milan, Vieira became an idol for Arsenal fans because, in his nine years as a ‘gunner’ (1996 to 2005), he won the Premier League three times, four FA Cups and three Community shields. He then went through Juventus, Inter and Manchester City.
He was a France international in 107 games and won the 1998 World Cup, Euro 2000 and the 2001 Confederations Cup.
