Portuguese police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a 26-year-old man after a dispute in celebration of the victory of Port as champion of the Portuguese league, in the early hours of last Sunday.
Judicial Police (PJ) today reported the arrest of a 19-year-old cleaning employee with no record, for the homicide crime that took place around the stadium Do the Dragaoin the city of Portwhere thousands of fans celebrated their team’s success.
According to PJ, the detainee and the victim have been in different situations since January.
Early Sunday morning, the detainee and a group of friends chased the victim, beat and kicked him, police added.
The man escaped, but was followed by the detainee who “carried a knife of large size, repeatedly wounded him and with severe violence, which resulted in his death,” PJ’s statement concluded.
A woman who was with the victim was also seriously injured in the incident.
According to the newspaper Publicthe detainee is the son of a prominent member of Super Dragons, one of the most important fan organizations in the Portwith a long history of violent incidents.
