He City of Manchester have signed the Dutch midfielder Jill Roord from Wolfsburg for three years, the team for the Women’s Super League was announced. The 26-year-old, who was capped 86 times and won Women’s Euro 2017, played for Arsenal from 2019 to 2021 and said she was excited to return to England.
“I’ve always thought this is a fantastic club with a lot of quality and I’m excited to start here,” said Roord. “I really like the way they play, and I feel like it suits me perfectly. It’s a young team with a lot of potential, which means a lot to me.”
Roord helped Wolfsburg reach the finals of the Champions League, where they lost to FC Barcelona (3-2). He scored 31 goals in 69 appearances for Wolfsburg in all competitions. Roord will arrive at City after the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
