English Lando Norris (McLaren), who finished second in the British Grand Prix, the tenth Formula One World Cup, declared at the Silverstone circuit (England) -where he matched the best result of his career in the premier class- that “It’s great to be on the podium in my home race” and his battle with his compatriot Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, who finished third) was also “vibrant”.
“It was a spirited battle with Lewis (Hamilton) and it was good to stop him; and I also tried to keep fighting with (Dutch) Max (Verstappen, from Red Bull, race winner and outstanding World Cup leader) as long as I could”, explained Norris, born 23 years ago in Bristol , who this Sunday achieved his seventh podium in F1, his first of the season.
“Often the race becomes long and boring when you are in the middle of the pack; but it is fascinating to be on the podium in my home race,” said the man who has been teammate of the Spaniard Carlos Sainz for two years.
“We should have finished second and third because Oscar (Piastri, his Australian teammate, who finished fourth) did a sensational job all weekend and he deservedly finished third if not for the ‘safety car’. It’s a shame because he deserves it,” said the talented and likeable Bristol champion after finishing second in front of his home crowd at Silverstone.
“I want to thank everyone in the team; they did an amazing job, without whom none of this would be possible”, commented Lando, who this Sunday equaled his best position in F1: the second he achieved two years ago in Monza (Italy). “It was a sensational that result at Silverstone; We will continue to push together as a team from here,” he added.
