Alonso hopes to celebrate the “other” in Hungary

Date:

Fernando Alonso, two-time Formula One world champion, arrived in Budapest with very high expectations. Although this year doesn’t coincide every day with his 42nd birthday (on the 29th at Spa), or the exact day of his first F1 victory (on the 24th), it marks the 20 anniversary of the first victory in F1 at the Hungaroring and For this reason, in the preview of the Aston Martin team, he mentioned that he has “great memories of the Hungaroring”.

“I won my first race of all here, in 2003, exactly 20 years ago; and it’s a circuit where I almost always celebrated my birthday,” said Alonso, who this time will blow out a candle at Spa-Francorchamps, home of the Belgian Grand Prix next week.

“It will be strange to celebrate this year in Belgium, but hopefully this weekend we can celebrate something else here,” said Fernando, who, with 32 F1 victories, will aim for ’33’ again this weekend at the Hungaroring.

“Here it is not easy to overtake, but sometimes there are strange races with unpredictable weather, so we have to be ready to take advantage of any opportunity and get as many points as possible,” added the Asturian with a goal in the Hungarian Grand Prix; a race he first contested 22 years ago.

About the previous GP in Britain two Sundays ago, he assured that “I think we made the most of a difficult weekend at Silverstone. It was great to race in front of the British fans and to spend some time in the new Technology Campus”, commented the Asturian double world champion, referring to his team’s new high-tech center, located just a few meters from the legendary English circuit.

“Today we changed the focus and focus on Budapest. I have many good memories of racing at the Hungaroring,” said Alonso, a few days after his 42nd birthday; with six podiums so far this season has again been the great sensation of a season in which he is third in the championship, with 137 points: 118 less than the leader, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, who leads the 99 his partner, the Mexican Sergio Pérez.

It should be noted that in theory the Hungarian layout should be kinder to the Aston Martin AMR23, a circuit marked in red.
