An “incident” at a hospital emergency room has caused quite a stir in Poland. A woman had taken the morning-after pill, informed her psychiatrist and was subsequently visited at home by a police patrol. The woman complained that officers had humiliated her during a medical examination.
The affected patient, known only by the first name Joanna, called her psychiatrist on April 27 and told him she had taken the morning-after pill. Johanna stated that she felt physically and psychologically unwell, but had no suicidal thoughts. In response, the doctor sent an ambulance and a police patrol to Joanna’s apartment.
“Had to Squat and Cough”
The patient was taken to a hospital emergency department. The police did not leave their side. “The police officers told me to undress, squat and cough. I took off my clothes but not my panties because I was still bleeding. It was humiliating and humiliating for me,” the woman told TVN24.
Woman’s laptop seized
An emergency room doctor reported that four male police officers were standing around the terrified woman, making it difficult for the medics to work. Police also seized the woman’s laptop. When the doctor and patient asked why this was necessary, the police officers explained that it had to be secured for the “protocol of the arrest”.
A police statement said Wednesday that when she called the emergency room, the psychiatrist said her patient was possibly suicidal and had taken an unknown substance.
