Boulders up to five cubic meters in size broke away Friday night in Längenfeld in Tyrol and thundered into a road and a residential area. Some of the evacuated houses have been released. Further measures will be evaluated on Monday.
In the center of Längenfeld, rocks of up to five cubic meters broke off about 70 meters from the wall on Friday evening. “Parts of the rock wall have come loose. According to estimates, there was a backwater of 20 to 30 cubic meters”, state geologist Thomas Figl reported at the request of “Krone”.
No injuries
For security reasons, nearby houses were evacuated for the time being, in case more stone fell. However, after a reconnaissance flight on Friday, everything could be released, as Figl says: “The affected path is still closed. The house was released again on the valley side. It was also agreed that the rooms on the mountain side would remain unused.” Fortunately no one was injured.
Because a rock net has been destroyed by the boulders, another investigation will follow Monday through the deluge and avalanche barriers. Then the next steps are discussed.
