Alarm in the Zillertal – sleeping man rescued from smoke-filled flat

Date:

Without a fire alarm and a careful neighbor, this could have ended in tragedy: a 27-year-old fell asleep on Saturday evening while cooking in his apartment in the Zillertal, after which the food burned and a lot of smoke was created. The alarmed firefighters were able to rescue the young man from the smoke-filled building.

Shortly after midnight, the neighbor raised the alarm after hearing a fire alarm in the multi-tenant building in Aschau and noticing the smell of fire from the adjacent apartment. “The fire brigade was finally able to quickly locate the affected apartment and had to force open the front door due to the emergency. The 27-year-old apartment owner slept in the completely smoky apartment,” the police said.

Suspected smoke inhalation
The young man was then taken outside and admitted to the Schwaz district hospital after first aid with suspected smoke inhalation. “According to the current state of the investigation, the 27-year-old may have fallen asleep while preparing food. The food that was left unattended had burned and caused this heavy smoke,” the researchers continued.

Other residents of the house were not injured. 20 Florianis were deployed with two vehicles of the Aschau voluntary fire brigade, the rescue service and a police patrol.
