The organization of Canadian Masters 1,000 has stated that Novak Djokovic will result in loss of the tournament to be played Toronto from August 7 to 13.
The Serbian player, 36 years old and record holder of 23 titles of grand slamlost on Sunday in the final of Wimbledon before the Spanish Carlos Alcarazwho prevailed in five sets and thus retained his world No. 1.
“I’ve always enjoyed my stay in Canada, but after talking with my team, we believe it’s the right decision,” Djokovic explained. “I want to thank Carl Hale, the tournament director, for understanding this decision. I really hope to have other opportunities to play in Canada and in Toronto,” added the Serbian.
“Obviously we are disappointed that Novak will not be participating in the National Bank Open this year. He is a fantastic player and we know our fans were looking forward to seeing him at Sobeys Stadium. We will miss him but we still have a long list of sensational players confirmed for the tournament, including 41 of the top 42 players in the world,” said Karl Hale.
Djokovic’s departure ensures that the American Christopher Eubanks enter the main frame directly. Eubanks distinguished himself at Wimbledon by reaching the quarterfinals, leaving the route in Stefanos Tsitsipas and Cameron Norrie.
