Sergio Canales said goodbye this Monday to his teammates, the coaching staff, the board of directors and the fans of Real Betis in a massive event in one of the halls of the Luis del Sol sports city, attended by the entire squad -including Marc Bartra-, coaching staff with pellegrini to the front and to senior council staff.
channels made it clear in his short farewell speech that the decision to end his cycle at Real Betis he took it last season, before even knowing the offer of striped. “This decision was well thought out, I think it’s the best,” he said.
These became the words of channels in his farewell:
“I landed at the airport in 2018 and I remember a fan yelling at me ‘you will succeed here’, ‘it will be incredible’. I thought ‘when I arrived, this passion for football…’ and I quickly lived it in my flesh. The first derby, the first night at Benito Villamarín… strange moments.
I met amazing people. I always say that you can make an effort, you can give your best, but when you are 50, I will remember the people, the moments that I lived. The titles are in the background.
Betis is the most important club of my career. When I renewed, and until not long ago, my dream was to retire here. I understand that this is a difficult decision to understand, but last year was the most difficult in my career, it cost me a lot and this decision was well thought out, I think it was the best. It’s hard to explain, but I always try to be honest, to say what I feel. Last year, what I always did was to do my best and when I saw that I had reached my limit, that a cycle had ended, I told the club, before knowing anything else, and I think it’s the best for everyone.
I am forever grateful. A wonderful city. My family has a lot of fun here. Special mention to the president, thanks for everything, from the bottom of my heart, Josemi, board of directors… thank you for humanizing the footballer. Thank you for respecting and helping me. That leaves any thought that I might have a football upstairs.
Thank you template, you made me happy. Workers, you are fantastic, an asset to the club. My agents, thank you all, for supporting me and for understanding me in my madness of wanting to leave.
Thank you to my husband, last year was the hardest in your life and you supported me through everything. Thank you”.
