The Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka became the first semifinalist of the WTA 1,000 in Rome on Friday after returning from his fight against the Americans Amanda Anisimovawho took the lead but eventually fell to 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Alarms rang in the central arena of the Foro Italico on Anisimova took the first set against the favorite to get through the round and seeded third in the tournament.
The Belarusian was in tow at the start of the crash. He recovered the two services he had lost, but the third was too much. Anisimova is somewhat more regular in the rest than the current number 8 in the rankings and leads the scoreboard.
Sabalenka had to react to number 32, and she did. He adjusted himself in the second round, defeated his opponent twice and recovered sensations with Italian clay. He moved the American and deployed accurate shots that brought in against the third set tiebreaker.
