Switzerland, with the same team then, consisted of Stefan Kung, Stefan Bissegger, Mauro Schmid, Elise Chabbey, Nicole Koller, and Marlen Reusserrevalidated this Tuesday in Glasgow (United Kingdom) the gold obtained in the mixed team relay in 2022 in Wollongong (Australia).
They joined the Swiss team on the podium, the first to repeat the medal in the four editions contested by the specialty, France, who dreamed of winning until the last moment, because they only surrendered 7 seconds to the finish line; and Germany, was 51 seconds off the winning team’s time of 54 minutes and 16 seconds.
France won the silver with Bruno Almirail, Remi Cavagna, Bryan Coquard, Audrey Cordon-Ragot, Cedrine Kerbaol, and Juliette Labousand Germany the bronze with Miguel Heidemann, Jannik Steimle, Max Walscheid, Ricarda Bauernfeind, Lisa Klein, and Franziska Koch.
They completed the Top10 out of 18 participants, Great Britain, Italy, Australia, Netherlands, United States, Austria and Poland,
Spain, with better benefits for women, Sandra Alonso, Alba Teruel and Sara Martinthat of men, Raúl García Pierna, Iván Romeo and Xabier Mikel Azparren, finished eleventh, 3.53 shy of gold and ahead only of second-tier teams. And that the girls returned to their section in Kazakhstan, ahead of the boys.
Switzerland, the heavy favorite to win, set the best times in both the men’s section, 25.35, and at the end of the women’s section. An urban route of 40.3 kilometers -half for each trio- flat but winding and complex where waterfalls and mechanical breakdowns never stopped.
After the men’s section, the first, France was third and Germany fourth behind an Italy that gave up at the end to finally fall to fifth position behind local Great Britain.
The Swiss medal was the second in the event, both gold; Germany is the third after the silver of 2019 and the gold of 2021; while France began the history of a test where more was expected from the Netherlands, gold in 2019, silver in 2021 and off the podium in 2022 due to a series of misfortunes.
It is worth noting that almost all teams crossed the finish line with two runners ahead, as if they sacrificed the third of the trio in favor of a better final time. The same happened with the men in the first half of the tour. However, in some cases it is also the result of a fall or damage.
