Chelsea-Liverpool, final and rematch at Wembley

Date:

Helsea and Liverpool star this Saturday in the FA Cup final with a taste of revenge, as on February 27 Jürgen Klopp’s team won the Carabao Cup, the English League Cup, after beating Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel on penalties. Two weeks before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris, the ‘reds’ will be looking for their eighth FA Cup and Chelsea, their ninth. Neither Tuchel nor Klopp ever won it.

Chelsea, 3rd in the Premier League, weighed on their shoulders by ensuring – though almost, not mathematically – their presence in the next Champions League by beating Leeds 0-3 on Wednesday. Liverpool, 2nd, are 3 points behind Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, leader, with 2 games left. This is a moment where the ‘reds’ have to manage the pressure more than ever: in addition to these last 2 games of the English championship (against Southampton and against Wolves), they have 2 finals, the FA Cup and the Champions League. The quadruplet dream is still alive, although City are 3 points behind in the championship.

While Tuchel is still hoping to bring back Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kanté for today, Klopp has a major defeat: that of Fabinho, whose influence on Liverpool’s game has been tremendous. All indications are that Jordan Henderson will act as a holding medium in the absence of the Brazilian, which Klopp said he could play in the final in Paris.

Klopp is the coach that Tuchel (18) faces most often and the balance is very favorable to the Liverpool coach today. In 18 games, 3 wins for Tuchel, 5 draws and 10 wins for Klopp. Tuchel replaced Klopp at Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

Klopp said yesterday that Liverpool did not beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, but the penalty shootout and that fate were ‘red’. The truth is the ‘blues’ dream that this FA Cup is for them.

Mason Mount said in April: “It’s time for us to win the final at Wembley. For me, there have been five finals at Wembley and I have lost five. From 2019-2020, the midfielder, in addition to losing two FA Cups and a League Cup, also fell to the Coliseum in July with England in the Euro Cup final against Italy on penalties (1-1). Mount also lost in May 2019 at Wembley in the final for promotion to the Premier with Derby, where he was loaned out from Chelsea, against Aston Villa (2-1). “It’s time for our revenge,” Mount said.
