The 45th edition of the Vuelta a Burgos in 2023 will take place from August 15 to 19, consisting of five stages and with the unique participation of riders of which the favorite is Roglic is a cousincurrent champion of the Giro d’Italia, in the absence of several riders due to the cycling calendar.
This year’s Vuelta a Burgos itinerary will cover a total distance of 676 kilometers, with a change in the starting point compared to previous years, since this time the race will start from the Villalba de Duero enclave in the area of de la Ribera and not from the Cathedral as before, but it will end in the capital after traveling 159 kilometers in the initial stage.
This year, a team time trial will be reintroduced, scheduled for the second stage of the Vuelta a Burgos, with a 13 kilometer route between Oña and Poza de la Sal.
The third stage will take place on Thursday, August 17, and the cyclists will face the challenge of climbing the Picón Blanco, a special climbing category, in this 183 kilometer mountainous section between Sargentes de La Lora and Villarcayo that promises to be decisive in the differences in creation between runners.
The fourth stage will provide relief after the intensity of the previous day, covering a distance of 157 kilometers, starting from Santa Gadea del Cid and ending in Padroluengo.
The final and definitive stage of the Vuelta a Burgos 2023 will end with the climb to Neila Lagoons after traveling 164 kilometers from the town of Golmayo in Soria.
This year, like most previous editions, the competition will feature a stellar lineup that includes renowned cyclists such as Oier Lazkano or the aforementioned Cousin Roglic, who confirmed their participation.
The Slovenian cyclist will compete for victory, which will serve as preparation for the next edition of the Tour of Spain. This intention is further strengthened by the confirmed absence of enric maswho chose to train for the Vuelta a España and declined his participation in the Vuelta a Burgos.
In the last call, Pavel Shivakov (INEOS Grenadiers) claimed the victory, while João Almeida is second and Miguel Angel Lopez third place.
The last Spanish victory in the Vuelta a Burgos started in 2021, when Michael Landa he was crowned champion. However, none of these runners are present in this edition.
