The breakaway was formed by 5 riders: Ángel Fuentes (Burgos BH), Mattia Bais (Eolo Kometa), Josu Etxebarria (Caja Rural), Xavier Berasategui (Euskaltel), José María García (Electro Hiper Europa) with an advantage of almost 3 minutes. and enduring the arreones at the back of a UAE-throwing squad.
