According to Gazzetta dello sport, Spalletti, the FIGC’s first choice, will sign a three-year contract, until September 2026.

After several telephone interviews, he gave his agreement to the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, who will be with him this Friday to finalize his contract. After his appointment, which could be formalized on Saturday, Spalletti is scheduled to hold his first press conference as coach on Monday, the sports newspaper reported.

Spalletti, 64, the Italian champion at Napoli in May, has left his post as Napoli coach. He will oversee the revival of the team which, despite their European title in 2021, failed to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He has just a few days to prepare for two crucial games for the Nazionale if he wants to qualify for Euro 2024, on September 9 in North Macedonia and against Ukraine in Milan three days later.

Negotiations with Spalletti are complicated by the presence in his contract, which still ties him to Napoli, until June 2024, of a clause providing for the payment of compensation of three million euros to allow him to accept a new position .

Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has warned the FIGC that he will not give up this compensation which is reduced by 250,000 euros per month for “a matter of principle”.
