The Polish Iga Swiatek against the American Coco Gauff and the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka against the Czech Karolina Muchova The semifinals of the WTA 1,000 in Cincinnati will be played this Saturday.
World number one Iga Swiatek beat Czech Marketa Vondrousova 7-6(3) 6-1number 10 in the ranking, and will face Gauff in the semifinals, seventh seed, who defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2.
Swiatek, this year’s champion in Doha, Stuttgart, Roland Garros and Warsaw, needed one hour and 31 minutes to topple Vondrousova, a rival she has already defeated at the 2020 Parisian ‘big’. The Polish player added his victory to 53 this year and defends the first position in the ranking since April 2022.
Gauff spent nearly 72 minutes on court against Paolini and will look to break his 0-7 record in clashes with Swiatekwhich denied him the title at the 2022 Roland Garros and also defeated him this year in the quarterfinals of the Parisian Open.
The other semifinal will be played by Aryna Sabalenka, number two in the world, against Czech Karolina Muchovanumber 17, who advanced due to the withdrawal of her compatriot Marie Bouzkova when she was leading 3-0.
Sabalenka beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur 7-5, 6-3who played in the second half of the second set was stopped by a physical problem for which he requested medical assistance twice.
