Jorge Prado, close to something historic: first option for the world title in the next race

Date:

The calculator did not fail Jorge Prado. In the sixteenth round of the Motocross World Championship, the Galician rider repeated the plan set in the last races. He attacked if he could win one of the motos and measured the risks in the other to lose very few points from his comfortable race mattress to the MXGP title.

Frenchman Romain Febvre again took a bittersweet victory as, despite his good form, he barely managed to drop a few points at each grand prix, with the Kawasaki man despairing as he saw how he beating the Spanish idol. So in the last sleeve he didn’t even greet his rivals at the finish line in the usual gesture of sportsmanship that is so noble in this sport.

In the first moto Jorge holeshot and set a strong pace to try to get away, until halfway through the moto Febvre caught him but he was unable to complete the win as his bike stalled and Prado regained the lead. From there the 61 maintained the advantage and won his 13th race of the year. The second race was a bit different as Febvre started first and Jorge was overtaken by many riders. The Frenchman pushed hard to win without problems and Jorge, without losing his temper, remained fourth behind Seewer and Coldenhof, without letting Renaux or Gajser take more points from him. In this way the French climbed to the top of the podium, but Prado occupied the second step with a wide smile.

“I am very happy because we keep the red plate with a

wide advantage and we keep adding points and podiums. The circuit was very bad, with some big bumps and potholes and it was a difficult weekend because I was a bit sick. However, in the first round I took advantage of Febvre’s mistake to win without a problem and in the second I held on to the front when Gajser pushed. I gave it my all and with only three races left, the goal is pretty close.”

Rubén Fernández had a not-so-good day as he suffered a spectacular fall in the opening heat and finished eighth in the second.

Podium for Daniela Guillén

The other great joy for Spanish sport came at the hands of the

very young Daniela Guillén to return to the podium with a

brilliant second place placing him a little closer to the leader

Courtney Duncan, who scored four points in Arnhem. In the Netherlands victory went to young Lotte Van Drunen with a resounding double; Guillén was third and second in the heats to take second in the Grand Prix and Valk took third place. Daniela is the only driver who has been on the podium in all the races of the year, she keeps her options for the title and everything is at stake in the final round of the championship: “I am very happy with the work done and with the result It is a difficult race in the sand, but we recovered some points to continue the fight for the red plate”.

In the MX2 World Championship, the dispute for the podium was not resolved until the final corners. In the end it was Liam Everts who took his second victory of the year ahead of an impressive Lucas Coenen and Simon Laengenfelder. Oriol Oliver, despite crashing at the start of both sleeves, made two great comebacks to finish again in the “Top Ten”. David Braceras, who was also fighting the best, had to leave due to technical problems.

With only three grand prizes left to finish the World Cup, 180 points are at stake to determine who will be the World Champion in 2023. The next appointment is at the Turkish Afyonkarahisar track on September 3. There both Daniela Guillén and Jorge will try Prado that made history in this sport, both with “match ball”.
