The team Pramac racing announced this Sunday afternoon, at MotoGP Austrian GP, the departure of pilot Johann Zarco at the end of this season. The 33-year-old Frenchman confirmed in his part in front of the microphones of ‘Canal +’ France his signing for the LCR Honda team for the next two seasons (2024 and 2025) in MotoGP. “I will be part of the Honda team for the next two years, along with the LCR team”, says Johann, expressing his departure from a competitive motorcycle like Ducati, to a brand like Honda that is going through a very difficult time. After 4 years at Ducati, three of them at Pramac (the first, in 2020, he rode at Avintia), Johann will start a new challenge in his career. Before, he set the goal of achieving a win and more podiums in the races that remain until the end of the season.
“After three seasons together, Johann Zarco and the Prima Pramac Team part ways at the end of this championship. From 2021 to now, the French rider has achieved a total of 12 podiums with the team: 4 in 2021, 4 in 2022 and another 4 this season.”announced a statement from the team, which thanked, in the words of Team Principal Paolo Campinoti, Zarco’s main work for the Ducati satellite group that has grown rapidly in recent years.
“During three fantastic years with Johann, the team took an important step forward, thanks in no small part to his immense talent. As such, I can only express my regret that he will not be a part of of our family for the time to come, but I wish him all the luck in the world for his future endeavors. Now all that’s left for me is to enjoy working with him until the end of the championship, hopefully again good things from him,” said Campinoti.
“It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with a driver and person like Johann, and my only regret is that he will not continue next season. There are still many races to go between now and the end of November, and this decision does not change the goal we set ourselves at the beginning of the year. I wish him the best of luck for his future”, said Gino Borsoi, Team Manager.
“I thank the team and Ducati”
“I have spent four years at Ducati, three of them at the Pramac team, and I am very happy with what we have developed and achieved together.”Johann Zarco argued for his part in the group statement.
“In 2021, I finished the championship in fifth place, marking my best result in MotoGP, but my goal is to do better this year.. At the end of this season I will leave with a smile because the team and Ducati have given me a lot and together we have fought for truly significant victories. Next year I will face a new challenge, but for now I want to finish this championship with my team in the best possible way.” Zarco added.
“I thank all my team, Ducati, and all the people who have worked alongside me during these years that we have put together. The ultimate goal remains to get on the podium and proudly sing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, with Paolo Campinoti, whom I sincerely thank for all the support he has given me since day one.”the pilot ended.
