A display from Japan’s Takumi Minamino, combined with two goals and an assist, temporarily lifted Monaco to the top of Ligue 1 thanks to a convincing win over Strasbourg at the Stade Louis II.
The 28-year-old Japanese has been outstanding in Adolf Hutter’s team which he signed last summer from Liverpool.
Minamino opened the scoring twenty minutes later with a powerful shot from distance that surprised goalkeeper Matz Sels. The second came after game time, after an aerial cross from Brazilian Caio Henrique found the back of the net.
Monaco did not stop, as they beat Clermont 4-2 on the first day. Hutter’s team strengthened its attack making the third sentencing clash in playing time. It was a wonderful pass from Minamino to Wissam Ben Yedder who beat Sels for the third time.
A second win in two games lifted Monaco to the top while Strasbourg, who beat Lyon at the start, suffered their first setback of the course.
