This is the challenging, innovative and spectacular route of La Vuelta 2023

The Barcelona city streets already dressed in their best clothes to host the spectacle of 78th edition of La Vueltawhich contested its first two stages in the Catalan capital this weekend and will end on September 17 at streets of Madrid.

An edition of the Spanish round that remains true to its explosive character, with short and entertaining stages -there are only two over 200 kilometers, the 7th of 201 and the penultimate, of 208 kilometers-, with the presence of two-day time trial – the first of the teams this Saturday and the second individual, which is 25.8 kilometers in Valladolid, after the first day of rest–, with the presence of many mountains and with a very well designed script to try to maintain the incentive and uncertainty until the end.

So, the 20th and penultimate stage will not be a transition, on the contrary, with a demanding proposal in which at least ten climbs will climb to Sierra de Guadarrama, at an unusual distance of more than 200 kilometers. A day that could be key to the development of a race that is already showing its toughness in the third stage in Andorra.

Five of the ten top finishes of this Vuelta have never been done before, and one of them is Andorran Arinsalfollowed by the demanding ascent to Ordino; followed by caravaca de la cruz in Murcia (stage 9), Jug-Belagua in Navarra (stage 11), beige in Cantabria (stage 16) and the linares cross in Asturias (stage 18). Since they are not known to the general public, these promotions arouse a lot of interest, although all eyes are focused on two great colossi: the Tourmalet –the most crowned pass in the Tour de France, a total of 80 times since the first crossing of the Pyrenees in 1910 and the favorite climb of the recently deceased Federico Martin Bahamontesthe ‘Aguila’ of Toledo– and L’Angliru, whose impossible slopes of 23.5% in Cueña les Cabres still remain in the retina of fans. At L’Angliru Against he won his last stage of La Vuelta (2017) and in 2020 Carthand became the eighth and last Angliru winner to date.

Now, the presentation of the teams

There are three days left for the 78th Vuelta to begin filming in the city of Barcelona 61 years later. But before 176 cyclists from 22 teams compete in the spectacular team time trial in the heart of the Catalan capital, one of the most awaited moments of any cycling race will take place today: the presentation of the teams. It will be held in Plaça del Mar, in Barceloneta, and will start at 6:00 pm with a pre-gala with a DJ, music, and raffles, to enjoy the cyclists participating in La Vuelta 23 from 8:00 pm , in a presentation that will be broadcast live on RTVE

The Briton returns this year with a Vuelta that presents a classy line-up, with the Tour’s double winner, the Dane, standing out Jonas Vingegaard; the triple winner of La Vuelta, the Slovenian Roglic is a cousin; the winner of the last edition, the Belgian Remco Evenepoel or the Spanish Juan Ayuso and Enric Mas.
