The Argentinian Diego Schwartzmann and the American John Isner reached this Saturday the final of Rome Masters 1,000 by beating Argentina in the semifinals Maximo Gonzalez at kazakh Andrey Golubev: 6-4, 4-6 and 11-9.
Isner, who stands 2.08m, is one of the tallest tennis players on the tour and is paired with Roma with one of the shortest, Schwartzman (1.70m).
In just an hour and a half, Schwartzman and Isner defeated their rivals to play in the final next Sunday. The game was decided on a ‘match tie-break’ at ten points after a tie with the one who looked at the scoreboard.
The Argentine and the American were ahead, but González and Golubev reacted to prolong the clash.
In the final tiebreaker, equality reigned again, but the favorites who went through the round sealed the final 11-9 proving their passage to the great final of the Foro Italico, where they faced the winner in the match between Italian binomial Fognini- Bolelli and Croatian Pavic-Mektic.
In the women’s draw, Mexican Giuliana Olmos agreed this Saturday, along with Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, to the doubles final of the WTA 1,000 in Rome, where they will face Russians Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Veronika Kudermetova.
Olmos continued his journey to the Roman capital and was a candidate to seize the Roman Foro Italico. The Mexican and Canadian defeated the duo formed by Indian Sania Mirza and Czech Lucie Hradecka in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2, in a match that lasted just over an hour.
In the final, Olmos and Dabrowski will face Russians Pavlyuchenkova and Kudermetova, a couple who fell from the tournament to the Italian title-lift favorite, Australian Storm Sanders and Chinese Shuai Zhang, in the quarterfinals.
