Castilla played their debut against Melilla

Date:

Castilla could not get past Melilla at Alfredo Di Stéfano (2-2) in their official season opener in Group 2 of the 1aRFEF. Raúl’s renewed team, now without mainstays on the brink of promotion such as Carlos Dotor, Rafa Marín or Sergio Arribas, dominated most of the game but failed to capitalize on their chances against a more effective and successful Melilla.

The visiting team took the lead through an own goal from Marvel (21′) but Madrid reacted a few minutes later with two goals from Gonzalo, the first on 27′ and the second just before half-time.

This striker/winger is one of the most outstanding players in Arbeloa’s Juvenil A team and made the jump to Castilla this summer alongside other gems like Edgar Pujol, Manuel Ángel and Nico Paz.

As soon as the second half started, Melilla managed to tie the contest thanks to a penalty converted by Dani García. Castilla went on the attack in search of victory and dominated the match almost at will. They enjoyed numerous chances to extend their lead but ultimately had to settle for a draw at home.
