Two pilots died in an accident during a test of the Brazilian Championship

Two pilots died this Sunday in a serious accident that occurred during the fourth valid test for the Brazilian Motovelocidad Championshipdisputed at the Cascavel International Autodrome, a city in the southern state of Paraná, organizers reported.

The accident happened around 6:20 pm (Spanish peninsular time) this Sunday in the first lap of the motorcycle race of the Moto 1000 GP category.

The pilot André Veríssimo Cardoso, 42, slipped and fell from his motorcycle after one of the first test curvesexactly in the stretch where the acceleration begins, and was run over by Érico Veríssimo da Rocha, 38, who escorted him and did not have time to avoid the accident.

André started in eighth place out of nearly 150 pilots from 10 countries who disputed the try and was hit just as he was trying to get up to continue the race.

As a result of the impact, the second pilot was thrown several meters from the runway.

Both sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital but did not fight back. André died as a victim of cardiorespiratory arrest while being treated at the medical center.

The Moto 1000 GP organization, which immediately suspended the testmourned the death of two competitors and canceled all activities in the fourth round of the Brazilian Motovelocidad Championship.

“The Moto1000GP family sends all our prayers to the riders and their families, friends and fans“said the organization in a statement.

“Unfortunately, a good day of competitions turned into one of the saddest in the history of Moto1000GP,” the note added.

The Brazilian Motovelocidad Championship began in April with a test in the city of Goiania and had stages in Campo Grande and Lima Durate before arriving in Cascavel, a city near Brazil’s border with Paraguay and Argentina.
