Van Rijthoven beat Australian Matthew Ebden in the first round, and then American Taylor Fritz, third seed. In the quarterfinals he defeated Frenchman Hugo Gaston and now, in the semifinals, the ninth player in the world, Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 1-6 and 7-6 (5).

Because of the impressive dynamics provided by his unexpected run, he won the first set 6-3, although Toni Nadal’s pupil reacted strongly and leveled the fight. The clash was resolved in the last dramatic part, unraveled in the ‘tie break’. Van Rijthoven prevailed after two hours and five minutes of duel.
