Legendary ‘Clockwork Orange’ goalkeeper Jan Jongbloed has died

Jan Jongbloedmythical goalkeeper of the ‘clockwork orange’, as the choice of Netherlands who took the lead Johan Cruyffhas died at the age of 82, the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) reported on Thursday.

Jongbloed, who played 24 games with the national team, was world runner-up in Germany in 1974 and Argentina in 1978, editions where his team fell to the host teams. His ‘Oranje’ record also included third place in the Yugoslavia Eurocopa 1976 and one of his curiosities was that he played with the number 8 on his back.

Born in Amsterdam on November 25, 1940, he played for DWS Amsterdam, Roda and Go Ahead Eagles before retiring at the age of 45. The KNVB “wishes the relatives a lot of strength to deal with this great loss.”
