Everton on Sunday missed a good chance to ensure mathematically permanence in the Premier League by allowing themselves to be tracked back against Brentford’s Christian Eriksen (2-3). Frank Lampard’s men played in numerical inferiority from minute 18 when Jarrad Branthwaite saw the red card and in minute 88 Salomón Rondón was sent off.
It was in the 10th minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin (in his first start since April 9) led Everton with the help of Richarlison. In the 37th minute, Brentford tied the score thanks to an own goal from Seamus Coleman.
At the discount of the first half (45 + 2 ‘) Richarlison advanced to Goodison Park from a penalty. But Brentford didn’t give up, they dominated the second half and Yoane Wissa made it 2-2, taking advantage of the ball from Eriksen in the 62nd minute.
Rico Henry headed in Brentford’s winning goal just two minutes later, at 64 ‘, following a Christian Noergaard pass. To make matters worse, Rondón was shown a red card for a tackle on Henry himself in the 88th minute, leaving Everton with 9 players on the pitch.
This defeat means Everton have yet to survive, as, with just two games left, they are only 2 points behind Burnley, the last team in relegation.
