Floyd Ganassi, IndyCar team owner Chip Ganassi described the Spanish driver as “special” Alex Palou, who was declared the champion of the 2023 season with his victory this Sunday in Portland (Oregon, United States) and confirmed that the Catalan will continue in his car next year. He did not give any choice of a destination in Formula One.
“Palou will be in our car, I can say it, for sure,” assured Ganassi in statements to the American chain ‘NBC’, owner of the rights in North America, just after the Portland GP.
The 26-year-old Catalan driver, who won his first title in 2021, was once again crowned IndyCar champion in a season in which he achieved five victories.
At Portland International Raceway, Palou led the race and pulled ahead of the Swede Felix Rosenqvist (Arrow McLaren) and the New Zealander scott dixonhis teammate and the only one who can stop the Catalan’s success.
“It’s special, we noticed it the first weekend, three years ago, we knew it was special,” Ganassi said.
“He is with our team, he wants to win, he told me, ‘We are going to sentence him today,'” he added.
Palou is a star in the United States, the options for a steering wheel in Formula One are complicated, despite the fact that he drove a McLaren in tests.
