The former forward of Borussia Dortmund Anthony Modeste join the Egyptian and African champions Al Ahly, just a year after signing for the German club with high hopes of replacing Erling Haaland. The Frenchman signed for Dortmund to replace Sebastien Haller, who was diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumor. Haller has just joined the club to replace Haaland, Manchester City’s current goal machine.
Modeste, 35, scored just two goals in 19 Bundesliga games for Dortmund last season, one of them a last-gasp equalizer to complete a stunning two-goal comeback and secure a 2-2 draw against in Dortmund. Bayern Munich in October.
Al-Ahly’s contract with Modeste is for one year and can be extended for another year “according to agreed terms,” the club indicated on its website on Monday. Modeste could make his debut next Friday, when Al-Ahly faces Algerian USM Alger in the African Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian League starts three days later.
