A member of Costa Rica’s technical staff died

The technical assistant of the Costa Rican soccer team, Erick Rodríguez He died on Tuesday in Amsterdam during the team’s tour of friendly matches in Europe, according to the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF).

“The Costa Rican Football Federation regrets to announce the death of the technical assistant of the senior team, Erick Rodríguez Santamaría”, who on Saturday “showed a health issue during the transfer from Amsterdam, Netherlands, where the team stopped on the way to Zagreb”.

“That same day the Federation contacted for his wife to travel to the Netherlands, who arrived on Monday. However, in the early hours of Tuesday, his health condition worsened and unfortunately Erick Rodríguez died next to his wife.” added the note.

The FCRF stated that it “regrets this news, and at the same time is working on all the details for the repatriation of the body, in conjunction with the Costa Rican embassy in the Netherlands.”

Touring England and Croatia

The Costa Rican team won 3-1 on Friday against Saudi Arabia and this Tuesday they lost 4-1 against the United Arab Emirates, in friendly matches played in England and Croatia, respectively.

Rodríguez has been part of the FCRF coaching team since April 2022 and in his career he has managed local league teams such as Santos and Liberia.

This year, Rodríguez coached the Costa Rica under-23 team that won silver medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
