Arturo Vidal: “I have risen 1,000 times in my life and today will not be an exception”

The Chilean international Arturo Vidal36, injured his right knee on Tuesday in a match against Colombia in a qualifier for the 2026 World Cup and underwent surgery a few hours ago in Santiago, as announced by his Brazilian club, the Athletico Paranaense.

“After an analysis (of the injury) through images, a meniscal injury was identified that required surgery to unblock the knee,” wrote the Curitiba club, where Vidal arrived in July. The duration of the absence is not specified, but He is likely to miss the final of the Brazilian championship, which ends in December.

Chile and Colombia drew 0-0 on Tuesday in Santiago on the second day of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the final stage of which will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Vidal left the field on a stretcher in the 73rd minute after collapsing in pain and was later taken to hospital by ambulance.

“I have got up 1,000 times in my life and today will be no exception, with the support of my loved ones and all of you,” the former Barcelona player wrote on his Instagram account from the hospital where he underwent surgery. “Sooner or later, I will be where I want to be the most, on a football field having fun as I have done in my whole career… Thank you and see you soon,” he continued.

Arriving in Europe in 2007, Arturo Vidal successively wore the colors of Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona and Inter Milan, before joining the Brazilian championship.
