The General Secretary of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖCC), Peter Mennel, has been accused of a serious breach of trust of ordinary members of the Committee, who filed a complaint against him with the Vienna Prosecutor’s Office, Austrian public television ORF reported on Thursday.
So far there has been no official reaction with this information also published by the Vienna newspaper Der Standard in its digital version.
Both media maintain that in addition to Mennel, the complainants accuse the ÖCC presidency of complicity, headed by Karl Stoss (president), and also consisting of vice presidents Peter Schröcksnadel (of the Ski Federation), Otto Flum (cycling ) and Elisabeth Max-Theurer (equestrian sports).
According to Der Standard, the complaint was filed by a Viennese lawyer on behalf of “ordinary members of the ÖCC.”that is, sports associations that make up the General Assembly of the national Olympic committee.
The newspaper indicates that The complainants consider that they lost 416,000 euros because the assets were used of the Olympic Committee to cover the losses of a platform established more than eight years ago to obtain project financing.
In the complaint, they say that Mennel was “suspected of deliberately abusing his authority to dispose of ÖOC’s assets,” the newspaper said.
