Grosso relieves Blanc to revive a Lyon in crisis

The arrival of Fabio Grosso on the Lyon bench to replace the sent off Laurent Blanc It is now official after the French club, which is at the bottom of Ligue 1, announced the hiring of the Italian coach for two seasons with the option of a third.

Grosso, 45, world champion in 2006 with Italy, has returned to Lyon since as a player he defended his shirt in 75 games between 2007 and 2009. He will assume his duties from Monday although tomorrow he is expected to witness the match against Le Havre in the stands of the Groupama Stadium.

Grosso was the first Italian international to wear a Lyon shirt, which he helped win Ligue 1 and the Cup in 2008, and now becomes the first Italian to direct it as coach of the Rhône club, which has been plunged into a crisis both sporting and institutional due to tensions in recent weeks between of its famous former president. Frosinone promoted

Grosso coached at Bari, Hellas Verona and Brescia in Italy, before moving to Swiss side Sion. In March 2021 he assumed the Frosinone, whom he led to promotion to Serie A last season as champions of Serie B, although he decided not to renew the contract.
