The youth player Ivan Cedricwho took the field in the 83rd minute, gave Real Valladolid a fine victory late in the match against a scrappy Cartagena team that looked for a goal until the end but came away empty-handed.
The match was decisive for the future of coach Paulo Pezzolano in the Blanquivioleta team, who decided to keep the three center backs and add Sylla to the top of the attack with Kenedy, at the expense of Marcos André.
In Cartagena, Víctor Sánchez del Amo also looked for offensive benefits with Ayllón and Ortuño, and made some variations in relation to the previous match against Zaragoza as Luis Muñoz replaced Gonzalo Verdú in defense.
Both teams sought control of the ball early on but it was the home side who controlled the game in the early stages, allowing Sylla to have the first big chance of the match, in the 3rd minute.
The Senegalese forward, despite Monchu’s good cross, missed the shot in an unusual error for an attacker, but this was his first start and his adaptation was not yet complete.
Kenedy tried ten minutes later with a shot that hit the post, forcing visiting goalkeeper Marc Martínez to intervene. The Cartagena team gradually gained confidence with Jairo’s first arrival whose shot was denied by the Blanquivioleta defense.
The Murcians should have taken the lead in the 27th minute, but Jony Álamo’s shot, taking advantage of Juric’s mistake in defense, narrowly missed the goalposts. This is a new help for the visiting team, which is growing.
And the most obvious warning was the goal, disallowed for offside, scored by Ortuño after taking advantage of a poor start by goalkeeper John Víctor. All the alarms were starting to ring at Real Valladolid, where Kenedy was the greatest player, although he saw no reward for his dedication.
Starting 0-0, the break was reached. The insecurity in Pezzolano’s charges was evident but he made no changes after the restart, nor did his counterpart on the visiting bench.
And Sylla became the hero. His boots had the clearest goal of the match up to that moment. But his shot collided with a great Marc Martínez, whose hand deflected the goal away. And on the next play, the crossbar prevented the Blanquivioleta striker from scoring.
Sylla, the white and purple player who created the most danger with Kenedy, was replaced by the Uruguayan coach to bring on Marcos André. But the difference maker was, once again, Raúl Moro, who provided verticality and showed his power in individual duels.
Cartagena also moved chips, but the game, with Moro’s courage and bravery, became more controlled by the Valladolid team in the latter part of the match. Of course, without positive results, because the completion did not come.
Meanwhile, the department team tried to exploit any gap in the local defense to extract the oil. And Jairo tried it, from the diagonal, with a powerful shot that was cleared by the goalkeeper of Real Valladolid.
Cedric’s entry in the 83rd minute was providential. A corner taken by Iván Sánchez was headed by Marcos André to give it continuity and Cedric appeared at the far post to finish and raise the only goal of the match, the local victory. In this case, deservedly so, given the clear excellence shown in the second half.
