Jorge Prado made history and was declared motocross world champion

Date:

On days like this Sunday it all makes sense. All the efforts, for many years, of Jorge Prado, but above all, of his whole family, to achieve the dream. At the age of 22, always called a child prodigy, the wonder boy from Lugo (January 5, 2001), became the motocross world champion in the top category of the 500cc MXGP World Championship. He made history. This Sunday, Jorge became the first Spaniard to achieve this milestone, something he achieved in 2018 and 2019 in the silver class of the World Championship (250 cc). Jorge Prado has the world in his hands to complete a story of precocity and unprecedented success. From a movie.

KTM’s youngest signing and family effort

Jorge rode a motorcycle for the first time when he was three years old, and at the age of 7, he achieved his first victory in his debut. From then on, nothing stood in the way of his natural talent. A year later, he became champion in Madrid. At the age of 9 he won the Spanish championship, and at the age of 10 he conquered Europe and the World in the smallest category (MX65). But that successful start was nothing more than the beginning of a career full of victories that led him to attract the attention of the most powerful structure, that of KTM-Red Bull, with Jorge the youngest signing in its history.

There the history of an entire family changed. In 2012, Jorge’s parents, along with the little boy and his sister, went to Lommel (Belgium) for his son to pursue his dream. His mother, Cristina, a lawyer by profession, had to work in a tourist complex because of language difficulties. This is just one example of how much the family risks for a child who has a bright future, but for whom nothing can be guaranteed. Now, 11 years later, all those efforts are more meaningful than ever. A family victory that ends with Jorge’s right fist, giving maximum gas to win race 1 of the Italian GP.

Febvre left and the title fell into Jorge’s hands

Prado clinched the title this Sunday, but expected it to come in the second race. Surprisingly, he achieved it in the first race on Sunday. This comes due to the unexpected withdrawal of his main rival for the title, Romain Febvre. Prado comfortably led the first race with an iron fist, when Febvre, who was third, suddenly fell. He ended up in 5th place, and finally, he had to retire due to engine problems on his motorcycle. To become the champion in the first race, Jorge needs to score 18 more points in this first race than Febvre. With his victory and the abandonment of his enemy, the man from Lugo conquered the world.

Jorge Prado achieved this milestone in his fourth season in the premier category. After the first three years in which he made giant strides against the best, but also after going through many difficult moments due to injuries, he finally conquered what he had been chasing all his life. That’s why he cried like a child when he crossed the finish line. He threw himself on the ground and thanked his family and everyone around him for what he had achieved. He is a champion. “It’s been my dream since I was a kid. It’s unbelievable,” exclaimed the winner of 14 of the 15 races held up to that moment. Champion of 2 Grand Prix and has the patience of a king. The throne of the motocross world is yours. So is the future. And maybe, one day, he’ll want to make a move to conquer America.
