Australia was removed from the 2034 World Cup

Date:

Australia will not run as a candidate for World Cup 2034 after considering “all factors”, as announced by the FA (Football Association) on Tuesday. FIFA has invited bids from Asia and Oceania for the tournament, with the deadline being October 31.

The president of the FA, James Johnsonhad previously expressed interest in bidding for 2034, but the governing body said it would focus on bids for the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup and the 2029 Club World Cup.

“We have explored the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and, having considered all the factors, we have decided not to do so for the 2034 competition,” the FA said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia announced it would bid for 2034 just minutes after FIFA invited bids from Asia and Oceania earlier this month. The president of the Asian Football Confederation, the sport’s continental governing body to which Australia belongs, praised Saudi Arabia’s bid and said “the entire football family in Asia” will come together to support it.
