Victory at the WTA 1,000 tournament in Guadalajara (Mexico) pushed Greek Maria Sakakri up to sixth place this week of the world rankings, with an improvement of three positions, in a list that continues to be dominated by Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who has not played since the final of the United States Open.
Sakkari defeated American Caroline Dolehide in the Guadalajara finalformer number 111 and experiencing a climb of 69 steps, up to number 42.
Among the top ten positions, in addition to Sakkari’s new situation, the Czech Marketa Vondrousova dropped from sixth to eighth place, her compatriot Karolina Muchova from eighth to ninth and the French Caroline Garcia rose from eleventh -one to tenth at the expense of another Czech, Barbora Krejcikova.
Sara Sorribes is the first Spaniard, 55, just ahead of Paula Badosa. Both dropped four places. Rebeka Masarova lost three, to 67, and Cristina Bucsa won eight, to 79.
