Changing a team’s shield is always complicated. For followers, it is usually a sacred element, almost untouchable, and criticism of new designs does not take long to appear. Well, Aston Villa decided to change its crest again, after realizing that the current one, which was released this season, was not liked by its fans.
Less than a year later, in November 2022, the English team presented what would be the team’s new shield. It changed a lot and became round, in the style of Chelsea or Manchester City, something that most of its fans did not like.
The discomfort became evident and now the club has decided to change it again by announcing that it will meet with the fans to explore other options that better represent the entity.
“Following the previous consultation process, the results of which currently adorn the 2023/24 playing and training kits, the club is assessing the impact of the change from a local, global and commercial perspective and has concluded that the current crest will not have the impact expected when it was introduced.
So on Aston Villa’s social networks and on its website the old shield is displayed, a fact that highlights the dislike of the new design released this season. Next year, the club will celebrate its 150th anniversary.
This is not the first case that the club has decided to back off and change its shield again. The members of Atlético de Madrid voted to recover the old shield and discard the current shield.
