A man with big words is not Ivan Ivanov. The Bulgarian preferred to let the horn of his heavy truck speak. At 7.52 am the traffic lights for the Ovenau tunnel jumped on the Tauernautobahn (A10) on Thursday on the Green – and the tunnel chain between Golling and throwing was finally accessible in two lanes. Ivanov was the first to ride with his truck – including loud horns.
The large construction site on the A10 is history before the start of the summer holidays. At least: there will be work further in the coming weeks. It is important to renovate bridges and streets and to tear off old industrial buildings. “But the tunnels are always passable,” understands ASFINAG project manager Hanspeter Treichl. He was busy with the mammoth project. “I can hardly understand that it is really being done now,” he says. The general renovation of the part of 14 kilometers on the Tauern highway cost 250 million euros. Up to 300 people worked on the construction site every day. The latest safety technology is installed. “We have prepared ourselves for the day. That is really not obvious.”
Treichl confirms again: “The limitations were great, we created a large needle with the construction site. But it was just the right decision to renovate all the tunnels at the same time.”

As reported, there were regular problems around the construction site. Not only on the highway itself, but also on the alternative routes by the municipalities on the A10, traffic regularly came to a halt.
