Belgrade will be the headquarters of 2024 cross country world championshipsa competition first reserved for Croatia, as announced this Wednesday by the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics).
This will be the second major world athletics competition in the Serbian capital after hosting the Indoor World Championships in 2022. This time the setting will be the Friendship Park, next to the Danube River, in the center of the city, which has been the headquarters of European Championships in 2013.
“Belgrade is establishing itself as a reliable venue for world-class competitions. After some unforgettable Indoor World Championships in 2022, we are confident that the organization of our 2024 Cross Country World Championships is in good hands,” said Sebastian Coe, president of the international organization.
The Council also approved the dates of the U-20 World Championships in Eugene (United States), which will take place from August 4 to 9, 2026, and the Road World Championships in Copenhagen, which will take place on August 19 and 20 September 2026.
