The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) considering suing for damages Roberto Mancini who resigned on August 13 in a shocking manner last August from his position as ‘azzurro’ coach. This was announced this Thursday by the FIGC itself.
The Italian Football Federation said in a statement: “The federal council has decided to entrust a legal expert with the task of evaluating whether the conditions exist for a possible claim for damages.”
Roberto Manciniwho directed Italy since 2018, he submitted his resignation in mid-August, indicating that he felt a lack of trust on the part of his leaders, especially the president of FIGC, Gabriele Gravina. He also denounced the decisions of Gravine taken without his approval, especially regarding the composition of his coaching staff.
Mancinithat led to Italy to win the European Championship in 2021 but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he said when he resigned that he still had no plans for the rest of his career. But on August 27, the coach was named the coach of Saudi Arabia until 2027, earning 20 million euros per year.
Luciano Spallettithat led to Naples to win the 2022-23 ‘scudetto’, replaced Mancini and at his command the ‘azzurri’ tied against North Macedonia (1-1) and they won Ukraine (2-1) in the qualifying phase for Euro 2024.
