Levante managed to add a point on Saturday by drawing goalless in their visit to Martínez Valero against a very offensive Elche who did everything possible to achieve a victory to rejoin the top of the standings.
The team coached by Sebastián Beccacece had more and better scoring opportunities, but found themselves with a very inspired Andrés Fernández in goal and a rival defense system that barely offer any cracks.
Elche, more demanding because of their situation in the table, were determined to corner Levante, who they barely allowed to touch the ball in the first quarter of an hour played at a very high pace.
Fidel, very active, came close to scoring the first after dribbling past the goalkeeper, although he was left with no angle for the shot.
Levante needed time and patience to break Elche’s monologue and did so through Dani Gómez, who tested debutant San Román’s reflexes with a long shot. The same protagonists repeated shortly after, although this time the goalkeeper stopped the Levante striker’s choice with his feet.
Elche came back into the fight in the final moments of the first action, with Fidel coming close to scoring, but Andrés Fernández cleared his shot with a great save.
Passing the locker room did not dampen Elche’s spirits, as they returned to the fray at the start of the second period, where they had several clear scoring chances.
Álex Martínez blocked a shot by León and soon after he got the ball Fidel sent from the goal line. Mario also, with an early bounce shot, came close to scoring, but Andrés Fernández reappeared to fly and clear the ball.
Levante coach Javi Calleja managed to stop Elche’s avalanche with his changes, although Elche continued to monopolize scoring chances, now with long-range shots from Bigas and Óscar Plano.
Levante were content to stretch their possessions and let time pass, squandering the possibility of attacking their rival in space, who were increasingly exposed in defence.
Elche remained focused on finding the goal, which they came close to, in the last minute, Plano again, but they failed to connect their shot in the small area towards the goal.
