Caitlin Food (28) is one of the Australian internationals to shine in world who organized their own country this summer. The winger explains what his life has been like in recent years: from driving UBER in his country to signing for Arsenal and ends up playing in the World Cup.
Foord, who had just signed for Sydney FC in 2010, first worked as a physiotherapist assistant. However, after suffering an injury during the 2017-18 campaign while at Arsenal, he decided a change was needed. “I did it to keep busy with the physical therapist I was going to, just helping out. Just to see what it was like.” “When I got injured, I was bored and tired of talking to people all the same, so I signed up as an Uber driver and took people around Wollongong.”
However, he said that his time as a ‘taxi driver’ lasted 48 hours: “It was two days. I worked on Friday and Saturday night. Someone met me, a friend of a friend, and he said ‘uhh Caitlin, what are you doing?’ doing?'”. “It’s addictive. There are noises and lights and then when you meet someone, you recognize them… But in the end I thought: is it really worth it?” Foord signed for the Gunners from Portland Thorns FC in 2020 and has been an integral part of the first team ever since.
