Idrissa Gueye, Senegalese PSG player, has to appear before the Ethics Committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) after her refusal to wear a team shirt with a multicolored flag during the international day against homophobia.
Gueye allegedly had a personal reason for not participating in PSG’s match in Montpellier on Saturday, which caused a great deal of controversy due to suspicion that he did so because of the multi -colored motif included on the shirt for that match.
Take a photo with the shirt to deny the rumors
The Ethics Committee asked Gueye in a letter to come out to deny these rumors, in which they invited him to be photographed with the shirt in question, or to confirm his refusal to be associated with that campaign.
In this second case, the Committee indicates, the player must “realize that his or her act was a serious mistake” because “the fight against discrimination against all minorities is a permanent battle.”
“By refusing to participate in a collective operation, discriminatory behavior is substantiated, the refusal of others,” the Ethics Committee said.
Support from the President of Senegal
Gueye has not yet ruled on this controversy, but his country’s president, Macky Sall, posted a message of support on Twitter suggesting he refused to wear the shirt for religious reasons.
Last season, Gueye also did not play the game where PSG supported the LGTBI + movement wearing a similar shirt claiming he had gastroenteritis.
