For the first time there are a detailed advertising statistics that documents the full extent of violence, attacks and escalations at Viennese schools – year after year, crime for violation. The data goes back to 2015 and show in a shocking way how classes, breaks and gears are increasingly becoming focal points of physical injury, sexual violence and serious crimes.
Various rapes and year after year after hundreds of attacks – we are not talking about a Dodgy backyard, but from Viennese schools. Although the directorate of the city and education does not lead to advertising statistics from domestic schools, a “crown” request to the police will open the explosive request.
In 2024 a total of 632 offenses were reported to Viennese schools. For comparison: in 2015 there were still 296. The number of advertisements has been more than doubled since 2015. By far the majority of physical damage. Only excellent attacks made 552 cases in the previous year. There are also 21 advertisements due to serious attack and three due to intentionally serious physical damage.
Sexual attacks have increased since Corona
A glance at the 2020s and 2021 initially gives hope: the crime numbers fell considerably in the Pandemic-Home School and Lockdowns made conflicts impossible in the schoolyard. But this calm was deceptive. Already in 2022 to the pre-corona level in 2022.
Since then, the development has only known one direction: up. The authorities also have a worrying development in the field of sex offenses. In 2015 there were only two advertisements for rape and gender coercion, so there were six in the previous year.
School no longer a hiding place
The particularly sensitive area of sexual abuse of minors and young people even showed ten advertisements in 2024. In general, the number of sexual attacks was considerably lower than those physical attacks – but their explosiveness is much higher. This area has risen since Corona and shows that in many cases schools are no longer a hiding place.
